Common Questions

See some common questions and answers below.

  • Do I need to complete a Tax Return?

There are several reasons why you may need to make a Self Assessment Tax Return during the year to declare a full breakdown of your income.

If you have received a request from HMRC that a Return is required then you will almost certainly be obliged to do so.

Alternatively, you may have started to receive income that isn’t taxed at source; if this is the case you should check whether you need to register for Self Assessment first. Click here to check out our blog on whether this applies to your situation.

  • What's included in your £180 Self Assessment package?

Your £180 payment (including VAT) includes the preparation and submission of your Self Assessment Tax Return with HMRC. We will ask you to submit a questionnaire to provide all your income details for the tax year. Once received, we will put together your Tax Return and then send over to you for review. Following this we can go through any queries you have before approval and submission.

If you require tax advice about what to include within your questionnaire, you can ask our dedicated support team who can upgrade your package to Premium for an additional fee.

  • Where do I find my UTR?

Click here to see our blog on how to find or apply for a UTR (Unique Tax Reference).

  • Who will complete my Tax Return?

Your Tax Return will be completed by one of our qualified accountants at OnTheGo Accountants, the sister company FileTax 'N' Go. We do not outsource any work to external firms. Upon submitting your request online, you will receive an introductory email from your dedicated Accountant who will be on hand throughout the entire process of preparing and submitting your Return, and available to go through any queries you might have.

  • How long will it take to complete my Tax Return?

We aim to have standard Self Assessment Personal Tax Returns and Company Year End Accounts completed and returned within 5 and 10 working days respectively from the point we receive all required information and documents, however if more time is required to ensure accurate completion of the work then we will let you know as soon as possible.

Where a premium is paid for completion of work within a specific timeframe then, provided we have received all requested information, this deadline is fixed and if not met the premium element of our fee will be refunded. We will let you know if this is the case and will check if you still wish to proceed with the service.

  • What information do you need to complete my accounts?

Once you have made a request for us to complete your accounts, you will be assigned a dedicated accountant who will let you know exactly what they need however as standard we will require:

    • Your company’s Unique Tax Reference (UTR)
    • Your companies House Authentication Code
    • A Trial Balance for your previous year’s accounts (if applicable)
  • How much do you charge for tax advice?

Our ad-hoc services do not include tax advice. From our experience, tax advice is more beneficial through ongoing support as tax rules and your situation changes. As such where this is required, we would often recommend that one of our monthly packages, through our sister company OnTheGo Accountants, is more appropriate.

  • Is it safe to enter my bank details on your website?

We use a third party, Stripe, to process our online payments who are PCI DSS compliant and support Strong Customer Authentication (SCA) requirements. We will never store any of your banking details.

For more information on Stripe, please see below links to their website:

  • What information do you need to complete my Tax Return?

For a Personal Tax Return we should be able to complete your Self Assessment using just the questionnaire completed by you detailing your income for the tax year which is provided to you upon sign up.

For a company Tax Return, more information will be required including, but not limited to, company bank statements, a list of expenditure incurred personally on behalf of the business and details of any opening balances, typically in the form of a Trial Balance. Shortly after you sign up, your dedicated Accountant will be in touch and can confirm if they need anything further in order to process your Return and if they have any queries they need to go through with you.

  • I’m due a refund from HMRC, how do I claim this?

Unfortunately FileTax 'N' Go won’t be able to chase this for you. To request a refund, you can contact HMRC directly on 0300 200 3310 and arrange the refund to be sent to you directly.

  • When are my company accounts due?

Click here to see our blog on how to find out when your Accounts are due.

  • I use an online software – are you able to access my books?

Absolutely, we would need Advisor access which you will be able to arrange through the software. Your dedicated accountant would be able to walk you through the steps on how to do this, following which they will be able to view your company transactions and put together your Accounts.
